dumb question
since demand for public transportation is up, why not raise prices?
oh, because it’s treated (basically) as a free resource.
oh, and because it’s not run like a (for-profit) business.
we’ll never pay the true price for things so long as certain things are treated as free. thus we have a sub-par infrastructure, traffic and congestion and smog on the roads, and trouble meeting the demand for mass transit. there’s no incentive to do better; it’s all and only political will, which is a fickle beast.
